Releases

The latest version is Peekaboo 0.1.11, released . Every release is below in plain words, with the features it added. Updates install themselves when you quit.

0.1.11

Latest

Startup Items and What Grew This Week, a faster, more Mac-like Peekaboo, and every automation in Routines.

  • Mac Health shows Startup Items: everything that starts on its own, which app it belongs to, and Turn Off. Home's What Grew This Week shows the folders that took the most space, and the low-space alert says roughly when the disk fills up.
  • Faster everywhere: libraries of 200,000 files scroll, select and search without stalls, and Peekaboo uses less energy in the background.
  • Works like Finder: Go Forward (⌘]) and Enclosing Folder (⌘↑), Quick Search results you can drag, Quick Look and right-click, and window titles that follow the page.
  • Routines is now the one place for automatic cleanup, keeping folders organized and Clean Safe Items, with a shorter sidebar and a two-step first run. If macOS blocks Desktop, Documents or Downloads, Peekaboo says so and opens the right setting.

0.1.10

Cloud Drives in the sidebar, Getting Started on Home, and Move to Drive for big files.

  • Cloud Drives: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box and iCloud Drive show up in the sidebar and in search on their own, with Download Now and Remove Download. Nothing to sign in to, and nothing downloads unless you ask.
  • Getting Started on Home: six first things to try, each with Show Me, ticked off as you do them. Hide it any time; Help ▸ Getting Started brings it back.
  • Large Files: Move to Drive frees space by moving big files to an external drive. Nothing is deleted, and Undo moves them back.
  • Drop files on the menu bar icon to show them, and let AI apps like Claude search your files from Settings ▸ Advanced. They can look, never move or delete.

0.1.9

Assistant, Activity, Routines and Mac Health now speak your language, with fixes for VoiceOver, Minimal theme and a few rough edges.

  • Everything new in 0.1.8 is now translated into all 44 languages Peekaboo supports.
  • Mac Health: the Quit button for busy apps shows again, and VoiceOver reads each app and its Quit button separately.
  • Routines and Activity read naturally (“1 routine”, “Last run now”, “Undone: Rename …”), and every new page works better with VoiceOver.
  • Clearer icons in the Minimal theme, and the Assistant explains plainly when Apple Intelligence isn’t ready yet.

0.1.8

Ask the new Assistant to tidy up in plain words, undo anything from the Activity page, and let Routines run tasks for you. Also fixes a crash when a search ended in “opened”.

  • Assistant: describe what you want in plain words, review the exact files in its plan, then press Run. It runs on Apple’s on-device model, so nothing leaves your Mac (Apple Intelligence Macs on macOS 26).
  • Undo everywhere: every move, rename, organize and cleanup appears on the new Activity page and in Edit ▸ Undo.
  • Routines run tasks on a schedule, at launch or when a file arrives, and Mac Health shows live readings, a 0–100 score and a week of history.
  • Search by last opened, weekday and hour now works in every language, and a search ending in “opened” no longer closes the app.

0.1.7

Find files by when you last opened them, by Finder tag or by weekday, with two new Shortcuts actions and a smoother, more accessible app.

  • Search by last opened (“downloads I never opened”, “apps I haven’t used in 6 months”), by Finder tag (“tagged red”, “untagged pdfs”), for empty files, and by weekday or hour (“since Tuesday”, “this morning”).
  • New Shortcuts actions: Put Back Last Cleanup, and Organize Folder, which asks before moving anything and can be undone from Cleanup History.
  • The peekaboo command shows disk usage with peekaboo du and lists what Clean Up would free with peekaboo clean, without moving anything.
  • Better VoiceOver and keyboard support, Quick Search that stays put across displays, less battery use when idle, and private files kept private.

0.1.6

A clearer menu bar icon: bigger eyes that are easier to see and follow your pointer further.

  • The menu bar icon’s eyes are larger, sit a little higher and stand out from the folder, so they read clearly at menu bar size.

0.1.5

Organize turns a messy Desktop or Downloads folder into tidy subfolders, by hand or on its own.

  • Organize sorts a folder’s loose files into subfolders by kind or by month, and shows every move before anything happens.
  • Keep Organized tidies Desktop, Downloads or any folder you choose every few hours. It’s off until you turn it on.
  • Every organize appears in Cleanup History, and Undo puts each file back where it was.
  • Works on external drives too, and leaves code projects, apps and files still in use alone.

0.1.4

Make Default works again on macOS 27, and Settings is clearer and easier to read.

  • Make Default no longer fails on macOS 27: Show in Finder from other apps opens Peekaboo, and Settings explains that this macOS keeps opening folders in Finder.
  • Settings notes line up on the left like the rest of macOS, and Show developer features now says exactly what it adds.
  • Clearer VoiceOver names for the Quick Search shortcut menu and the automatic cleanup pickers.

0.1.3

Tools for people who write code: find anything on your Mac, including what Spotlight skips, and see your projects at a glance.

  • Narrow a search with tokens like ext:, path:, kind:code and hidden:, and search the whole disk for files Spotlight doesn’t index.
  • Projects shows your code repositories as cards, with their branch, last commit and rebuildable folders you can move to the Trash.
  • More Info in the inspector: the full path, permissions, owner, where a file was downloaded from and its git branch.
  • Open and reveal files from Terminal with the peekaboo command, or from anywhere with peekaboo:// links.

0.1.2

A redesign that makes Peekaboo look and feel like a native Mac app, with faster, smoother browsing and a new way to free up space.

  • A new native look: the system sidebar, toolbar and search field, with a redesigned first run, Settings and cleanup pages.
  • Disk Usage can remove the Apple Intelligence models when you need the space back.
  • Stop the App Uninstaller and Duplicates scans at any time.
  • Quicker clicks, drags and search, plus keyboard and VoiceOver fixes across the grid, Disk Usage and Space Map.

0.1.1

A small fix: the anonymous daily usage report now goes to Peekaboo’s own analytics stream. It never includes file names, paths or contents.

0.1.0

The first release

This is the first public release of Peekaboo. It’s new, so if anything looks off, reply to your license email or write to support@getpeekaboo.app. It comes straight to me, and I fix what I hear about first.

  • Home: your whole Mac as six shelves, with live totals (no Refresh button, ever)
  • Search in plain English with ⌘F, and Quick Search from any app with ⌥Space
  • Text in screenshots, photos and PDFs, read on your Mac by Apple Vision. ⇧⌘C copies it from as many images as you select
  • Duplicates (⇧⌘D): exact copies by SHA-256, look-alike photos by Vision
  • Clean Up (⇧⌘K) and the Undo timeline — every cleanup can be put back in one click
  • Space Map (⇧⌘M): click a slice to see what’s actually using your disk
  • Command palette (⌘K), bulk rename with preview, saved searches
  • Playful and Minimal looks, light and dark (⌃⌘T)
  • Your ten newest downloads in the menu bar, ready to drag
  • Shortcuts actions: Find Files, Get Latest Download, Search in Peekaboo
  • Known gap: no network drives yet. It’s first on the list for the next update
