How to uninstall Peekaboo
By Vishva Variya · Updated · 3 min read
Short answer
Open Peekaboo › Settings › Advanced and click Uninstall next to “Uninstall Peekaboo”. Peekaboo and everything it keeps on your Mac move to the Trash, it deactivates your license on this Mac, resets the permissions you gave it, makes Finder the default for folders again, and quits. Until you empty the Trash, you can put any of it back.
How do I remove Peekaboo from Settings?
- 1Open Peekaboo and choose Peekaboo › Settings.⌘,
- 2Click the Advanced tab.
- 3Next to “Uninstall Peekaboo”, click Uninstall…, read what it will do, then click Uninstall and Quit.
- 4Empty the Trash when you’re sure. Until then, everything can be put back.
If Peekaboo is in a folder only an administrator can change, macOS asks for your password once. If a cleanup is running, the sheet waits for it to finish.
What does Uninstall do besides deleting the app?
- Deactivates your license on this Mac, so you can use the key on another one.
- Resets the privacy permissions you gave it.
- Makes Finder the default for opening folders again, if Peekaboo was.
- Stops watching for deleted apps, and clears its settings.
How do I uninstall Peekaboo installed with Homebrew?
The zap option also moves Peekaboo’s settings and caches to the Trash:
brew uninstall --cask --zap vishvavariya/peekaboo/peekabooWhere does Peekaboo keep its files?
If you removed the app by dragging it to the Trash, these are what remain. Open each with Finder › Go › Go to Folder (⇧⌘G):
~/Library/Application Support/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo~/Library/Application Support/Peekaboo~/Library/Caches/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo~/Library/Containers/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo~/Library/HTTPStorages/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo~/Library/LaunchAgents/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo*.plist~/Library/Logs/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo~/Library/Preferences/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/app.getpeekaboo.Peekaboo.savedState
Questions
Does uninstalling Peekaboo cancel anything?
- There’s nothing to cancel: Peekaboo is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Uninstalling from Settings deactivates the license on this Mac, so the key works on another one. It’s in your purchase email if you come back.
Will my files be deleted?
- No. Peekaboo never owned your files; it only showed them. Uninstalling removes the app and its own data. Anything a past cleanup moved to the Trash is still wherever you left it.
Can I get a refund?
- Yes, within 7 days of purchase, no questions asked. See the refund policy, or write to support@getpeekaboo.app.
I already dragged the app to the Trash. What’s left?
- Its settings and caches in ~/Library, and possibly a login helper. Delete the folders listed above, and check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions.
Leaving because something didn’t work? Tell the developer. Every email gets read. Refund policy.
