What’s in ~/Library/Caches? Every folder, explained
By Vishva Variya · Updated
Short answer
~/Library/Caches holds files apps keep so they don’t have to download or build them twice: thumbnails, web data, updates, package downloads. Most can be deleted with the app quit, and the app rebuilds them. Some hold sign-ins or sync state, so clearing them signs you out or forces a re-sync. Below are 286 folders Peekaboo recognises, each marked safe to clear or check first.
How to use this list
Open your cache folder with Finder › Go › Go to Folder (⇧⌘G) and ~/Library/Caches, then look up a folder’s name here. “Safe to clear” means the app rebuilds it with nothing lost. “Check first” means clearing has a cost you’d notice, such as signing out, a re-sync or a slower first launch. Quit the app before you delete its folder. This lists the largest folders:
du -sh ~/Library/Caches/* 2>/dev/null | sort -hr | head -20Step-by-step guides for the most-searched apps: Spotify · Slack · Microsoft Teams · Zoom · Google Chrome · Telegram · Figma · VS Code · Docker · npm · Homebrew · Notion · Dropbox. For the general how-to, see how to clear cache on a Mac.

Developer tools are on their own page once you turn on Show developer features. Everything goes to the Trash, and the last cleanup can be put back with ⌥⌘Z.
