How do I let Claude, Cursor or other AI apps search my files?
By Vishva Variya · Updated
Short answer
Install the command-line tool in Settings › Advanced › Command-line tool, then Use with AI apps appears below it. Copy the command for Claude Code into Terminal, or the configuration for Claude Desktop, Cursor and other apps into their MCP settings. They can search and show files, never open, move or delete them.
Steps
- 1Open Settings › Advanced and install the command-line tool.⌘,
- 2Under Use with AI apps, copy the command for Claude Code, or the configuration for other apps.
- 3Paste it into Terminal, or into the AI app’s MCP server settings, and restart that app.
- AI apps can search your files like the app does, see what’s using space and what Clean Up would free, and show files in the app.
- Files that hold keys, tokens or passwords are never listed.
- Peekaboo sends nothing itself. What the AI app sends to its own servers is up to that app; for nothing to leave the Mac, use the on-device Assistant.

How do I contact support?
- Email support@getpeekaboo.app. It goes straight to the developer. Settings › License › Copy Support Info adds your app and macOS version, with the license key hidden.
