How do I use Peekaboo from Terminal?
By Vishva Variya · Updated
Short answer
Install it from Settings › Advanced › Command-line tool. Then peekaboo find prints matching paths, newest first, using the same plain-language searches as the app; peekaboo open brings Peekaboo forward with a search; peekaboo reveal selects a file in Peekaboo. It only ever shows files: nothing is opened, moved or changed.
- --in FOLDER reads that folder instead of asking Spotlight.
- --limit N prints at most N paths; -0 ends each path with NUL, for xargs -0.
- --dry-run (open, reveal) prints the peekaboo:// link instead of opening it.
- Exit status: 0 found or done, 1 nothing found or refused, 2 usage error.
peekaboo find pdfs from last week --limit 5
peekaboo find --in ~/Projects ext:swift parser
peekaboo open screenshots with wifi password
peekaboo reveal ~/Downloads/report.pdfIn Settings
- Command-line toolSettings › Advanced
- Installs the peekaboo command, to search and show files from Terminal.

How do I contact support?
- Email support@getpeekaboo.app. It goes straight to the developer. Settings › License › Copy Support Info adds your app and macOS version, with the license key hidden.
