Why doesn’t Peekaboo show a file I know is there?
By Vishva Variya · Updated
Short answer
Usually one of five things: the folder isn’t one Peekaboo can read yet, the file lives only in iCloud, it’s hidden, it’s on a network drive, or Spotlight hasn’t indexed it. Each has a fix below.
- Outside Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Movies, Music and Applications: turn on Full Disk Access.
- Stored only in iCloud: Peekaboo skips those on purpose, so nothing downloads behind your back. Download it in Finder first.
- Hidden: press ⇧⌘. to show hidden files, or add hidden: to the search.
- On a network drive or server: not supported yet.
- Not in Spotlight’s index: use Search Everywhere, which walks the disk itself.
