How to clear the Figma cache on a Mac

By · Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

In the Figma desktop app, open Help in the macOS menu bar › Troubleshooting › Reset Figma and Restart. Figma’s manual method deletes the whole ~/Library/Application Support/Figma folder from Terminal after you force quit the app. Your design files live in your Figma account, not in that folder.

Where is the Figma cache on a Mac?

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Figma
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Figma/Cache
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.figma.Desktop

Safe to clear. Temporary files stored by the Figma design app. Safe to delete and Figma will rebuild them when you next open it.

How do I reset Figma from the app?

  1. 1In the Figma desktop app, click Help in the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen (not a menu inside Figma).
  2. 2Choose Troubleshooting.
  3. 3Select Reset Figma and Restart.

How do I delete the Figma cache by hand?

  1. 1Force quit the Figma desktop app.
  2. 2Open the Terminal app.
  3. 3Run: rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma"
  4. 4Launch the desktop app.

What happens when you clear it?

Figma's article doesn't say what is lost. Its manual Mac command deletes the whole ~/Library/Application Support/Figma folder, not just a cache subfolder. Figma files are stored in the cloud, but local desktop-app state in that folder is removed. Peekaboo removes only ~/Library/Application Support/Figma/Cache and ~/Library/Caches/com.figma.Desktop, which the app rebuilds.

Clearing it with Peekaboo

Peekaboo’s App Caches page lists “Figma” with its size and the note above, alongside every other cache it finds. It won’t offer a folder the app is still running from, and the cleanup goes to the Trash, so ⌥⌘Z puts it back.

  1. 1Open App Caches.⇧⌘E
  2. 2Find Figma, check its size, and move it to the Trash.

Questions

Where is Help > Troubleshooting in Figma for Mac?

Figma says to use the Help menu in the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen, not a menu inside the Figma window. Then choose Troubleshooting > Reset Figma and Restart.

What folder does Figma tell you to delete on a Mac?

The whole Figma folder in Application Support. Figma's command is rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma", run in Terminal after you force quit the app.

Does clearing the cache delete my Figma files?

Figma's article doesn't say. Figma design files are stored in your Figma account online, not in this folder. The cache only holds temporary files that the desktop app rebuilds.
