DriveDx alternative: Peekaboo vs DriveDx
By Vishva Variya · Updated
DriveDx answers the scariest disk question, “is this drive about to fail?”, by tracking failure indicators on SSDs and HDDs, running self-tests and emailing you when something changes. Peekaboo answers the more common one, “why is my disk full and is my Mac OK?”. They overlap less than the word “disk” suggests.

Why pick Peekaboo over DriveDx?
Space, not wear
Peekaboo shows free space as part of a 0–100 Mac Health score, maps what’s using it, and finds duplicates, old downloads and unused apps to clear. It doesn’t read a drive’s S.M.A.R.T. data or predict failure.
The rest of the Mac too
Processor, memory pressure, network, heat and battery sit in the same view, with the apps keeping the Mac busy or awake.
Undo for every cleanup
Everything goes to the Trash as a recorded session, so one click puts it back.

The honest verdict
If you care about a drive dying (an ageing external disk, a Mac you can’t afford to lose), DriveDx does something Peekaboo doesn’t do at all. If the question is space and general health, Peekaboo covers it. Back up either way.
